Barrett Dam Entrapment Fatality 1948

Duane Poore, a 17-year-old member of the Del Rosa Hot Shots, was entrapped and perished while the crew was assigned to the Barrett Dam Fire on the Cleveland National Forest in Southern California. Poore was one of 13 Del Rosa Hot Shots, along with fire overhead and an engine that were sent from the San Bernardino National Forest to fight the fire on the nearby Forest. He was last seen Friday, July 10, and a search found him two days later. It appears that he had been entrapped and tried to use a large rock as a place of refuge.
