Big Swamp Fire Hit by Tree Fatality 2022

On August 10, 2022, Craig Interagency Hotshot crew was involved in suppression operations on the Big Swamp Fire, Willamette National Forest, Oregon, when a crewmember, Collin Hagen, was struck by a tree. Fellow crewmembers provided immediate medical care on scene until additional resources arrived to assist with medical efforts and patient extrication. Concurrent to providing medical attention, a helicopter was dispatched to begin short haul operations. Upon helicopter arrival, Hagen was short hauled from the area. He was pronounced deceased while enroute to the hospital in an air ambulance.
