Description:
On July 30, 2024 the Borel Fire had slopped over and was burning uphill toward a mid-slope road on Division H. Strike Team members were not comfortable sending people down into the drainage to go direct in order to anchor into the fire and instead decided to build dozer line along a ridgetop that ran perpendicular to the road. The STEN noticed mechanical “dozer push” evidence from previous years along the ridgeline and called for dozer E-47 to report to the area to begin work. As E-47 proceeded downhill off the ridge, the dozer started to slide a bit. As the operator attempted to maneuver back where he came from, the dozer began to roll down the hill - rolling six or seven times until it stopped. The STEN cleared the radio for emergency traffic and minutes later the medics and one half of the Strike Team, approximately six personnel, arrived at the dozer rollover site to find the operator up and walking. The medics and Strike Team members packaged the patient and initiated transport via helicopter hoist.
