Description:
Tanker 130, a C-130A owned by Hawkins and Powers, was assigned to the Cannon Fire on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest near Walker, California. As the aircraft was completing its sixth retardant drop of the day, Tanker 130 experienced an inflight breakup, with both wings separating from the fuselage. The fuselage continued into the broad valley, crashing in an agricultural field adjacent to the town of Walker. All three aircrew were killed in the accident.
Those who lost their lives in the Tanker 130 accident were: Mike Davis, Craig LaBare, and Steve Wass.
