Central Washington Interagency Communication Center Power Outage 2023

On Friday, August 25, 2023, at 1300 hours, the Central Washington Interagency Communication Center lost phones, internet, and radios due to a power outage. Late August in the northwest is a period of high fire danger, and lightning was expected through that Saturday. At that time, the dispatch center had an emerging Type 3 wildland fire incident and another new smoke had just been reported. Over the next several days, the dispatch worked through a variety of fixes, coordinated with an adjacent dispatch center, the Forest Service Regional Office, the internet service provider, and others, to maintain communication and accountability across a huge portion of Washington.
