On October 7, 2014, a CAL FIRE S-2F3AT air tanker, Tanker 81, was performing aerial retardant delivery on the Dog Rock Fire, just inside the western boundary of Yosemite National Park in California. While preparing to perform his second retardant drop on the fire, pilot Geoffrey "Craig" Hunt verbally approved the drop route to the Aerial Supervision Module, and began the approach. While on approach, Tanker 81 struck trees with its left wing. The aircraft then entered a descending left roll and impacted the top of a large rock cliff.
