Description:
On September 28, 1970, an Allouette II helicopter assigned to the Fork Fire on the Angeles National Forest, California, crashed, killing all five aboard. The helicopter was shuttling firefighters to a helispot on the fire, which burned on the north side of San Gabriel Reservoir up Bichota Canyon. According to the NTSB investigation, the helicopter was overloaded and suffered a complete power loss.
Those lost in the Fork Fire helicopter crash were: Steven Grammer (Redding IHC/Redding Smokejumpers), Edward Henderson (pilot), George Lopez (Angeles NF helitack), Ronald Scott (Redding IHC) and William Wales (Redding IHC).
