  • Description:

    While preparing for a firing operation on the Hermits Peak and Calf Canyon Fires, Santa Fe National Forest, New Mexico, crews identified a burning snag that needed to be addressed. A sawyer attempted to fall the snag but it became hung up in a live tree. The sawyer used a notch and hinge cut to attempt to bring the snag to the ground safely. On the final cut the snag dislodged. The base hit the ground and pivoted. The snag fell and struck the sawyer in the back.
