Description:
Hazard Tree Felling Project, Boise National Forest, Idaho
The sawyer moved to the offside of the tree to start the boring back quarter cut. The sawyer started the chainsaw, got into a comfortable position and began their cut. The sawyer was holding the chainsaw with his left hand positioned behind the chain brake (ready to hit the brake in case of kickback from the saw), and his right hand on the trigger. The saw was turned on its left side, with the bar nuts facing the sky. Upon contact, the saw glanced off the outside of the tree and swung down and to the left, striking the sawyer on their lower left arm.
