    Limepoint Fire, Idaho - 2024

    After explaining my cut plan to my saw partner, I bored into the tree, and it started off as planned. Watching my kerf, it remained open until I was 90-95 percent of the way through the tree. At that point, the stump roots gave way—causing the tree to release from the stump. It swung on the downhill side of the stump not the uphill as anticipated. The tree swung toward the trunk of the tree it was hung up in, while the top held in place. The top then released directly back toward the stump and me.
