Mulch Fire Ash Pit Burn Injury 2019

  • Description:

    A U.S. Forest Service firefighter fell into a 3-foot deep ash pit during mop-up operations on the Mulch Fire on the Coconino National Forest. A state fire engine was on scene with an EMT and responded to assist. The injured firefighter was flown via air ambulance to the Phoenix Burn Center where he underwent surgery, including skin grafts. Additional surgeries are anticipated, as well as 2 to 3 weeks of hospitalization.
