    09/04/2024

  • Description:

While building a pump site for portable pump operations in a creek on the Sharrott Creek Fire, Bitterroot National Forest, a firefighter suffered a crushed finger injury. One firefighter passed a rock to another firefighter, and as they were receiving the rock, the second firefighter lost his balance and crushed his finger between the rock he was being passed and another rock on the ground. After receiving initial care at an emergency room, the firefighter had a follow-up consultation with an orthopedic surgeon on 9/8. Due to the condition of the finger, the surgeon recommended amputation of the fingertip (above the distal joint).
