Description:
A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) Type 6 Engine caught fire on the afternoon of October 11, 2024, while assisting the Carson National Forest on the Sontano Prescribed Fire. The engine was parked on the "burn" side of the road, in a pocket of green, while the unit was in the patrol/securing phase. Once the fire was discovered, the vehicle could not be extinguished with resources onscene. The vehicle was a total loss, but no injuries occurred.
