    Prescribed Fire Operations
  • Description:

During a morning recon day after successful ignitions on Turkey Neck Rx, the helicopter reported that the area around Route 15 looked “soupy", however the fire was still within the unit and no other concerns were noted. Shortly after this helicopter recon, the unit received a call from the local county emergency management officer who had called into the District Office to report a minor vehicle accident on Route 15. They would therefore be shutting down a four-mile stretch of the highway due to fog and smoke concerns. The RXB2 confirmed the location and then responded with the FMO and the local engine to assist in smoke mitigations on the highway.

In coordination, the Forest DO, the RXB2, and the AAs requested that a Rapid Lesson Sharing (RLS) review be completed to
determine if there were any lessons that they could learn or share from this smoke incident.
