Indiana Dunes National Park, Porter Indiana
On March 18, 2025, a burn injury to a firefighter occurred along with UTV damage while trying to suppress a spot fire on the West Beach Rx Unit. Medical treatment was conducted on scene. Due to the location of burns on the body, the firefighter was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, then later was transferred to a burn center that specializes in facial burns and plastic surgery. It was determined that the firefighter had received first and second degree burns to their face and was subsequently treated and released from the burn center that evening.
