Description:
During a proficiency jump east of Hebgen Lake, two smokejumpers were pushed backwards by strong winds and landed a considerable distance from the identified jump spot. One smokejumper landed uninjured, while the other landed hard in a stand of young lodgepole pine trees and broke his leg. A medevac effort began immediately. The jumpers who had landed uninjured located their injured colleague and initiated care, and EMS crews arrived at the injury location approximately one hour after the accident. The jumper was loaded onto an air ambulance for medevac to a hospital a little less than two hours after the accident.
