    The Williams Creek Fire was detected August 29th , 2022, on the Red River Ranger District (Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest) approximately five miles west of Orogrande, Idaho in the Gospel Hump Wilderness. A point protection strategy has been implemented to protect the community of Orogrande and other values at risk. As the fire nears Orogrande, a firefighter is assisting the division supervisor by assessing helicopter bucket drops and tracking fire progression towards a trigger point. Once the trigger point is reached, the firefighter assists evacuations and prepares to depart when their ATV becomes trapped by falling trees. The firefighter escapes on foot to a pickup truck of another firefighter. The ATV is destroyed.
