  • Description:

    On April 13, 1949, DNR equipment operator Walter Norton died in a vehicle accident while responding to a 5-acre fire in Webster, Wisconsin. Walter was driving to the scene hauling equipment when the trailer hitch broke, causing the trailer to crash into the truck. The truck went off the road and rolled over, resulting in Walter's death. Another firefighter in the vehicle survived the crash.
