Wrights Spring Fire Dozer Entrapment Fatality 2026

On the afternoon of 8/6/26, a contracted D6 dozer was reported missing, after all contact the dozer had been lost. The dozer was engaged in line construction efforts on Division X of the Wrights Spring Fire. After extensive search efforts hampered by strong fire behavior and other hazards, the dozer was located. The dozer operator was discovered with fatal injuries. Klamath County Sheriff's Office has identified the dozer operator as Jason Ensign.

The U.S. Forest Service officials are coordinating with impacted resources to provide critical incident stress management and related mental health resources to those that have been impacted by the incident.
