Apache Fire Ash Pit Burn Injury 2024

  • Description:

    An engine crewmember experienced an ash pit burn to their legs on the Apache Fire, Los Padres National Forest, California. The burns were initially thought to be first degree/superficial burns. The following day, the firefighter was sent to a level 1 trauma center and then a burn center. Eventually, the diagnosis was some second degree/partial thickness burns, with third degree/full thickness burns on back of calves. A follow-up appointment at a burn center is set for 8/8/2024.
