    The Autumn Hills Fire began on Sunday afternoon, June 23, 1996, in a wildland-urban interface subdivisıon located within the Sierra Forest Fire Protection District of the Nevada Division of Forestry in Douglas County. The Sierra Front IMT assumed command of the fire at 2135 hours. The Rocky Mountain Incıdent Management Team arrıved over the course of the afternoon of June 24, 1996. An independent journalist located in the area traveled to the scene of the fire during the initial attack period on June 23 to film fire behavior and firefighting activity. While he filmed, the fire experienced sudden flare-up, described as a blow-up, necessitating an escape from the fire area. The journalist jumped into the pickup bed of a firefighter, intending to film as they left the area. As they made their way through the extreme fire behavior along the road, the journalist received partial thickness burn injuries to the face.
