On July 24, 2020, an engine responded to initial attack the Badger Fire at approximately 1730. The engine crew was assigned to conduct a firing operation from a dozer line that ascended a steep, rocky hillslope. The crew initially began firing halfway up the slope, but ceased and continued hiking towards the top of the ridge. As they were 3/4 of the way to the top, a wind shift cause fire behavior to change and fire to move towards them. They were instructed to drop their packs, and reaching the top, they were picked up and extracted from danger by engines. One engine sustained minor heat damage.
