Incident Type:
Water Tender Incident -
Description:
At approximately 2350hrs, while transporting a load of water on Div. F, the driver noticed burning material fall from the right bank (his passenger side) prior to a left hand corner. This caught the operator’s attention. The driving conditions were dark and dusty with limited visibility. Upon entering the left hand turn/bend, the back left duals (tires) came into contact with a burning log on the left side of the road. The log was angled such that the rear tires were able to climb the length of the log, acting as ramp. Once the rear left tire set climbed the log, the vehicle’s water shifted in the tank. After contact with the log, the water again shifted back and forth. This shifting of water caused the water tender to roll onto its right side, passenger side, and come to rest on the side of the road. The driver was wearing his seatbelt, was able to turn the vehicle off and crawl out the driver’s side door. The driver suffered no injuries. The driver was able to radio the Div. Supervisor and notify him of the incident. The Division, Safety and line medics responded to the rollover (at 0012hrs). A small fuel leak was mitigated and the incident was documented and photos taken. The vehicle was safely removed from the line by the end of shift on September 6th .
