Description:
Pilot Robert Gilbreath, Deputy District Ranger Samuel Ready, and Fire Control Officer Harold Barnes were killed when the helicopter they were riding in crashed near Ball Mountain on the Sequoia National Forest. The three men had taken off from Kennedy Meadows on a fire detection flight over the Inyo and Sequoia National Forests. The Bell 47 helicopter crashed in the High Sierra by Ball Mountain, killing all three occupants. The crash location was not found until July 5.
