Description:
On July 27, 2024, Crew 8, a Type 2 hand crew, is assigned with two other hand crews to line a slopover on the Battle Mountain Complex in northeastern Oregon. Crew 8 begins working in an area downhill from their identified safety zone, when fire behavior increases at 1300. With rollout and snags falling into the green, the crew begins to fire around their position and consider shelter deployment. Shortly after, helicopters cool down their location and a READ in the area scouts an escape route for the crew back to their vehicles. There were no injuries.
