Description:
Robert "Bud" Clyburn, 22, was killed by a falling snag while working with a crew to suppress a fire on Beaver Creek, a tributary of the Klamath River in far northern California. The snag burned out at the base and fell as Clyburn was improving handline. Clyburn had been working the fire for many hours and fatigue may have been a factor in not identifying the hazard tree. Clyburn's body was carried six miles out on a mule, accompanied by a group of fellow firefighters.
