  • Description:

    At approximately 17:10, on July 11, 2024, a helicopter conducting bucket operations on the Bench Lake Fire on the Sawtooth National Forest experienced a mishap. The helicopter experienced an unknown issue and went into Bench Lake while collecting water. The pilot was able to exit the aircraft and swim to shore, where he was met by on scene firefighters, who then hiked with the pilot to a nearby trailhead. The pilot was evaluated and released by the EMS on scene.
