Description:
On September 15, 2005, the Black Ridge Prescribed Fire was initiated as a single-day project 363 acres in size on federal lands managed by the Burns District of the Bureau of Land Management. At approximately 1300 hours, a dust devil carried embers across a disc line approximately 25 feet wide, starting several spot fires. By 1315 hours, the slopover reached the top of the ridge with several crew personnel attempting to keep the fire from establishing on the ridgetop. The fire kept moving to the east and upslope faster than the crew personnel could keep up. By 1600 hours, the fire was contained. Although this prescribed fire escaped and burned private lands, it was never declared a wildfire.
