Description:
At 1755 hours on April 25, 2024, a significant fire broke out from a structure fire in Blankenship Hollow at Stopover, KY (Pike County). During the intense initial attack firefighting operations, a Kentucky Division of Forestry firefighter was tragically entrapped. The Incident Commander Type 5 and the fire crew, demonstrating exceptional teamwork, were able to assist the injured firefighter from the scene of the burnover to the waiting ambulance in Blankenship Hollow. After a thorough assessment by the EMTs, it was deemed necessary to request the life-flight helicopter for the firefighter's urgent transport to the burn unit at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV, to treat the severe burns covering their hands, knees, and face.
