    J. Smith, an itinerant logger aged about 70, was found dead in bed at a lumber camp near Stirling City after he had been on the lines of a forest fire in the Bottle Creek area, south of Butte Meadows, California. The fire burned about 2600 acres of industrial timber land and areas of the Lassen National Forest. The fire was suppressed by firefighters under the control of Ranger Frank Delaney of the Lassen NF. Neither newspapers nor official public records record Smith's full name or exact age.
