    Fred Gibson was assigned to the Breitenbush Fire on the Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon. On August 31, 1929, at 1030 hours in the morning, Gibson was struck and killed by a falling snag on this fire. 

    The area of the Breitenbush Fire was later incorporated into the Willamette National Forest.
