    Fred Gibson was assigned to the Breitenbush Fire on the Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon. On August 31, 1929, at 1030 in the morning, Gibson was struck and killed by a falling snag. 

    The area of the Breitenbush Fire was later incorporated into the Willamette National Forest.
