Description:
A swamper from an Interagency Hotshot Crew (IHC) assigned to the Bucktail Fire, Grand Mesa Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forest, was swamping brush and contacted the moving saw chain with a gloved hand. USFS EMTs provided initial medical support. Based on several factors (distance to hospital, limited ambulances on the incident) the swamper was transported in a Colorado State/Division of Fire Protection and Control (DFPC) helicopter to the airport in Montrose, CO. A ground ambulance from airport to hospital completed the medical transport. The firefighter was treated for lacerations to palm of hand, which required stiches. The firefighter was released after this treatment.
