Description:
Jose Belmonde perished from burns he received while assisting suppression of the Cahuilla Fire in Riverside County, California on October 14, 1928. Unfortunately little is known about the circumstances of the incident nor the victim, beyond his name. The fire was likely one of two very large fires documented in CAL FIRE's fire history database, each of which totals over 60,000 acres. No further information is readily available. The incident was likely, but not definitely, an entrapment.
