    At 1440 hrs on June 27, 1990, fire overran a CDF (now CAL FIRE) crew that was attempting to backfire a handline. The fire was burning on moderate to steep slopes, in light vegetation during shifting winds and extreme temperatures (110 degrees F, 9% relative humidity). Two fire crew firefighters received burn injuries to which they succumbed in the following days, and the rest of the crew (15 firefighters) received varying degrees of injury. The fire occurred in the Domenigoni Mountains, on the Riverside Ranger Unit near Hemet, California. 

    The firefighters lost on the California Fire were Victor Ferrara and Aaron Perry
