Camp Creek Fire Hit by Tree Fatality 1939

Anthony "Tony" Kukowsky, a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) crewmember from Camp Riggins, was killed during suppression actions on a fire located on Idaho State lands near Knox, Idaho. According to media reports, Kukowsky was struck by a falling snag on the night of August 31 on the 700-acre Camp Creek Fire. He suffered a skull fracture and was being transported tot he hospital when we succumbed to his injuries the following day. The site of the accident was 6 or 7 miles from the nearest road.
