  • Description:

    An unidentified US Forest Service firefighter was drowned crossing the Trinity River on horseback, possibly in the area of Big Bar or Del Loma, California, while enroute to the Canadian Creek Fire. The Canadian Creek Fire, burning on the Trinity National Forest, was reported at between 3000 and 5000 acres at the time. The fire eluded control in difficult terrain at the top of Deer Creek, employing all available firefighters in the local area, including Boy Scouts.
