    Wisconsin DNR equipment operator Donald Eisberner, 48, died in the line of duty on April 24, 1982 on the 274-acre Canoe Landing Fire in Eau Claire County. The Canoe Landing Fire was caused by an unattended campfire. Fire spread to dry grass and into a young pine plantation. Don was one of the first firefighters to arrive at the scene and began plowing on the fireline. With a sudden wind shift, the fire turned and trapped Don and his tractor plow unit.
