Description:
On August 14, 1931, Vernon Creson, a 34-year old World War I veteran, was helping suppress the Canyon Creek Fire on the Trinity National Forest in California. Creson observed that the fire was making a crown run. He is reported to have made his way on foot to warn another group of firefighters to retreat to safety. However, before he could reach this crew, Creson was entrapped and killed by the fire.
