Chainsaw Training Limbing Accident 2018

On April 24, 2018, at approximately 1429 hours, a CAL FIRE Fire Captain who is an Advanced Faller (C-Faller) Cadre Member was struck by a grounded tree limb that was under tension from a felled tree that had landed on top of it during an Advanced Faller Training Course. The Fire Captain was limbing the felled tree when the tensioned limb beneath the felled tree released and struck him in the head, knocking him off his feet downhill into tree debris and rendering him unconscious. The Fire Captain suffered significant injuries to his head, neck and chest. He was treated at the scene and transported to a nearby CAL FIRE fire station then flown by air ambulance to a local hospital.
