    Gayle Eaton, a Redding-based pilot on contract to the California Department of Forestry (CDF, now CAL FIRE) was killed when his S-2 air tanker crashed during the approach to a drop on the Charles Creek Fire on the Plumas National Forest. The fire burned 244 acres on the south side of Charles Creek, 7 miles north of Frenchman Lake. Any NTSB report that may have been performed is not available, and the cause of the accident is not clear.
