    Fifty firefighters were entrapped while attempting to suppress a fire and keep it from destroying structures at an Olympic Peninsula logging camp west of Port Angeles, Washington. The men loaded onto a logging locomotive and rode through the burning forest, crossing a burning bridge, until they reached safety. Some of the men suffered burn injuries to their backs and face, and smoke inhalation, especially two men who ran through the smoke to throw a railroad switch. They had fought fire for 36 hours and 18 buildings at Puget Sound Timber Company's Camp 5 burned despite their efforts.
