    Elias Tanner was employed by the Forest Service on the Clearwater National Forest in Idaho when he was struck by a falling tree and killed instantly. Tanner was felling a tree and was struck when he attempted to escape it as it fell. His fire crew was assigned to one of the many fires burning in the Clearwater, Nez Perce, Pend Oreille and Kaniksu National Forests.
