Coconino National Forest Fire Hit by Tree Fatality 1956

Allen S. Wilson, Jr., a Coconino National Forest firefighter based in Happy Jack, Arizona, was killed when a burning snag broke and hit him while he was fighting the Turkey Pen Fire southeast of Flagstaff. According to accounts, he was supervising the falling of a snag when it broke and hit another tree, and subsequently struck him. He lost his footing while trying to escape. Wilson had recently come to the Coconino NF, he had previously been a smokejumper at Idaho City.
