Description:
At about 1600 on July 18, 1970, a Convair PBY-6A aircraft crashed on apporach to Columbia Air Attack Base in Columbia, California. The aircraft was observed making 360-degree turns at low altitude before turning to final approach. As the plane approached to land, it hit granite boulders 250 feet from the runway, about 5 feet below runway elevation. There was a post crash fire, destroying the aircraft. Both pilots were fatally injured. Not other information is readily available, including pilot names.
