  • Description:

    On February 10, 2022, the Davy Crockett National Forest of the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas conducted prescribed fire operations on two separate burn units. Toward the end of the day, two fire personnel, a firefighter and a UTV Operator, were assigned firing operations of the control line between two drop points. Suspecting a fuel leak on the UTV, the UTV Operator stops to investigate. As the UTV Operator begins to dismount the UTV, they are immediately surrounded by black smoke and flames coming from under the UTV between the driver’s seat and the cargo bed. There are no injuries but the UTV is destroyed.
