    Pilot Allen K. Platt was killed when his Bell 47 helicopter crashed as a result of a suspected downdraft. Platt had been transporting firefighters to the remote Cooper Mountain Fire in the North Cascades, 10 miles NNE of Manson. The fire was burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Platt was the only occupant of the aircraft at the time of the accident.
