Copter 205 Power Loss 2021

While conducting hoist rescue training just east of Vina Helitack Base, California, S-70i C-205 experienced a loss of power in one of two engines. The aircraft began to descend with a rescuer attached to the hoist hook causing the rescuer to contact the ground. The aircraft began to gain elevation bringing the rescuer to approximately 15 feet above ground level. Due to the power loss, the aircraft began to settle again. For the safety of the rescuer, the cable cut switch was engaged shearing the cable and rescuer from the hoist. The rescuer received minor cuts and bruises and was transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.
