Description:
James Kennedy, an equipment operator for the North Carolina Department of Conservation's Forestry Division was killed while constructing tractor-plow line on a forest fire near Cove City in Craven County. The tractor was progressing forward when it struck a tree or stump and threw Kennedy forward into the brush guards of the tractor. He died of his injuries a few minutes later. Soon after Kennedy's body was moved, the fire burned over the area, destroying the tractor.
