Description:
James Kennedy, an equipment operator for the North Carolina Department of Conservation's Forestry Division, was killed while constructing tractor-plow line on a forest fire near Cove City in Craven County. The tractor was progressing forward when it struck a tree or stump and threw Kennedy forward into the tractor's brush guards. A few minutes later, he died of his injuries. Soon after Kennedy's body was moved, the fire burned over the area, destroying the tractor.
