Description:
July 10, 2023 - Devil’s Butte Fire - Condon, Oregon.
During initial attack at approximately 1200, fire pushed toward a heavy brush engine that was stuck in powdery soils forcing the operator and crew member to retreat uphill, through unburned fuels. Approximately two hours later the fire burned toward a grader and two engines constructing line in a wheat field. Once the grader encountered direct fire against the blade, the grader operator and both engine operators began to retreat to the north, away from the fire. The engine became inoperable, and the engine operator and crew member retreated to a nearby burned area on foot.
