Description:
An engine crewmember was constructing indirect fireline during a high heat watch day on the Dixie Fire, Nez Perce National Forest, Idaho. The firefighter displayed symptoms of heat illness and crewmembers requested a line medic. Heat illness progressed quickly and they became unresponsive to verbal stimuli. Responders initiated RED medivac and the firefighter was transported via agency helicopter from incident to hospital in Missoula, MT and diagnosed with exertional heatstroke. The firefighter was released August 3, traveled home and continues to rest/recover per medical instruction.
